Pupils at Charlton Kings Junior school gave their adopted classmate a send-off to remember.

Foreign exchange pupil Paul de Truchis is returning to France after spending six months at the school.

Youngsters at the East End Road school gave the 11-year-old a party to say au revoir to their much-loved classmate.

Parents joined in the fun, coming along to provide a buffet of cheeses, croissants, baguettes and pastries.

Paul said: "Both countries are now in my heart. I'm happy to go back to see my family but I'm sad to leave England. I like the English school I because it is small and the change of food. I will miss the Helsby family a lot."

During his time in Cheltenham, Paul has lived with the family of John Helsby. The 10-year-old will now join Paul's family in France for an exchange visit.
